Why This Project Is So Important to Us

Our First Grant

We are working on our first grant! Who knew I’d be writing grants?? Well, I have to admit that I’m not actually the one writing it. Through therealmartian.com an awesome subscriber volunteered to help us write grants…and he’s a Christian…God is good! He has been amazing as the whole process is a bit overwhelming! Today Mr. Martian and I shot our first video together. If you watch his videos, and I hope you do!, you probably have noticed that I am nowhere to be found. Just a little camera shy, I am;). So for me to shoot of video is a big deal! But it was worth it! We are working on a grant proposal for this (https://challenges.openideo.com/challenge/bridgebuilder/ideas?page=3&order=newest&direction=desc #contribution-list) grant. After doing a lot of searching it’s awesome to have found a grant that we are able to able to apply for-thanks to our totally awesome grant-writer friend!

Even if we don’t strike gold and get the grant I believe God has us going through this for a reason. We are learning a lot, mostly me, and it gets our name and project out there. Those can’t be bad things! Through this process I have been able to do some reflection on why we are doing this and why it is so meaningful to me. Mr. Martian is really good at making me do the “reflection” thing and “get to the root”-something I love about him and am thoroughly annoyed with;). It can be easy for me to get swept away with something that I think is a good idea and then look back and say, “Now is this really something that I wanted to do”. For this project to work I believe it is something that has to come from my heart. Not just something I think I believe, but something I truly believe in.

Through this reflection I believe God has been right there with me. After reading articles like this one (http://www.cnn.com/2017/03/11/africa/un-famine-starvation-aid/) the question rang true was…”How can we not help?” Our system has the ability to not just aid life but sustain life in third world countries and people are starving in Africa right now! I believe as Christians, and even if you are not a Christian-as humans, it is our responsibility to not turn a blind eye to human suffering and awaken our hearts and minds to help our brothers and sisters who are crying out for help! How can we not take action and do something! Proverbs 21:13 says, “If a man shuts his ears to the cry of the poor, he too will cry out and not be answered”. Now I admit, going to a third-world country to deploy our system and teach locals in places where it is common for Christians to be persecuted makes me want to run to any other place that I know is safe. However, I truly believe that if this where God wanted me to go, He would give me the courage, strength and Depends (just in case my bladder doesn’t catch up to my courage:)) to do His work.
Mission work has been on my heart in the past and I believe God is nudging me again for this call. I always wanted to go on a mission trip as a Registered Nurse and had opportunities but they never seemed like the right time. I think God was saving me from myself because I had no idea what I was getting into. I believe God is opening up my heart and my mind to this idea again. To be able to share this experience with my husband would be amazing! I don’t think it’s a coincidence that Mr. Martian designed a system that would aid third world countries and God has put missions on my heart. I’m excited for the future God has for us! "and if you spend yourselves in behalf of the hungry and satisfy the needs of the oppressed, then your light will rise in the darkness ,and your night will become like noonday. The Lord will guide you always; He will satisfy your needs in a sun-scorched land and will strengthen your frame. You will be like a well-watered garden, like a spring whose waters never fail" (Isaiah 58:10–11).
